FSU football: Impact of Joshua Farmer declaring for 2025 NFL Draft
By Kelvin Hunt
It has been a long road for Joshua Farmer. He was the first high school recruit to commit to Mike Norvell in the 2021 recruiting cycle as a three-star 250 defensive lineman. He leaves FSU with an ACC Championship and the potential to get drafted fairly high in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Farmer announced his intentions to declare for the draft via his social media account:
Many people try to say Florida State can't develop high school talent, but Joshua Farmer is the poster child for player development. He added over 50 pounds between his final year in high school and the past few years to become one of the best defensive tackles in the ACC.
He was a Freshman Honorable Mention All-American by College Football News. Farmer was All-ACC Second Team in 2023 and Honorable Mention All-ACC in 2024. He may not have been the dominant player everyone expected in 2024, but he was consistent with nearly the same production he had a year ago.
Farmer had 32 tackles and eight for a loss, four sacks, and six QB hurries. His absence will leave a huge void in the middle of FSU's defense. Farmer's parents passed away when he was young, and he has siblings depending on him to provide. So it makes sense he'd want to get to the NFL to make more money and eventually get to a second contract that could be worth more than his rookie deal.
Farmer played hard all year in a year that didn't go anywhere close to how he expected from a team perspective. He could have mailed it in and not given effort all the time, but that's not what he did. Props to him for overcoming a ton of obstacles in life and accomplishing his dream of becoming an NFL Draft pick. Best of luck to him!
