FSU football: Former QB Jameis Winston makes the most of his opportunity
We at ChopChat reported earlier that former Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston would be making his first start of the season with the Cleveland Browns as they take on the Baltimore Ravens. Winston was one of the more polarizing figures in all of Seminoles' history.
Winston made history at Florida State, where he secured a national championship and a Heisman Trophy in 2013. This is something that fans will never forget. The former five-star prospect was able to be selected in the 2015 NFL Draft by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Much like many players throughout the NFL, it seems like they hop around to various teams before fizzling out. It is difficult to get a second contract in the league. However, Winston has continued to carve a role for himself.
His career with the Buccaneers and Saints did not go the way that he thought. However, life is filled with moments of adversity. It is all about what you do when adversity hits.
The Cleveland Browns defeated the Baltimore Ravens by a score of 29-24. Quarterback Jameis Winston had to make the start since previous signal-caller Deshaun Watson suffered a season-ending injury.
Winston had an impressive performance where he completed 27 of his 41 passes for 334 yards and three touchdowns. To make matters even better, Winston had a 38-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Cedric Tillman to give the Browns a 29-24 lead late in the fourth quarter.
The Browns are now 2-6 on the year. It is unlikely that they make the NFL playoffs. However, it is great to see Winston make a great impression. Hopefully, this allows him to carve an elevated role in Cleveland after this year or give another team to give him the starting nod instead of a back up role.
Nonetheless, as a Florida State fan, it made me happy to see him have success.
