Here's Why

If you follow FSU football recruiting, you could probably read the tea leaves regarding the 2025 QB saga. Long-time QB commit Trammell Jones had rumors he was flirting with the rival Florida Gators in the summer, and those rumors heated up over the past couple of weeks.

In turn, FSU football coaches started doing their due diligence to have a plan ready if he decided to move forward with a de-commitment. That de-commitment news dropped Thursday morning, and the news that FSU received a crystal ball prediction for a higher-ranked 2025 blue-chip quarterback followed shortly after.

2025 blue-chip quarterback Carter Smith is a former Michigan commit who de-committed in late October. He had an FSU offer and visited campus several times between 2022 and 2023. He was on campus in October 2023 before committing to Michigan, so it's not like all of this happened out of thin air.

He's set to take an official visit for the Florida game. He plans to visit Wisconsin this weekend, so it's not a guarantee he'll join FSU's 2025 recruiting class. However, whether he does or not, FSU will hire a new offensive coordinator, and they could bring someone with them.

The de-commitment news wasn't unexpected and FSU has options, so it's like the fans are unbothered Tramell Jones may wind up at Florida to sit behind DJ Lagway for the next two years. That's got to be a weird feeling after staying committed to a program for a year and a half. It's how high school recruiting goes nowadays.

I expect FSU to lose at least 1-2 more players from its 2025 high school class. However, most of these guys were not going to be contributors next year. FSU can get more bang for its buck, by taking quality players from the transfer portal to right the ship quicker.
