Florida State football finished with a 2-10 record in 2025. It was an embarrassing campaign that Seminole fans want to forget about.
Individuals know that this is an important year for head football coach Mike Norvell in the sixth year of his tenure. I am not one to raise the torch for a coach that just went 10-3 in 2022 and 13-1 in 2023, but I also realize that last year was inexcusable.
Unfortunately, it does not get any easier as the Seminoles face off against Alabama in the season opener. That said, Florida State does have the chance to play East Texas A&M and Kent State after the Alabama game so it could give some relief to the schedule.
The College Football Playoff National Championship Game just ended last night between the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Ohio State finished with hoisting the trophy at the end of the game.
College football analysts wasted no time thinking about 2025 and dropped the Way Too Early Top 25 rankings. Here is a top 25 from On3's Andy Staples and Ari Wasserman.
Florida State plays four opponents on this list during the 2025 season: Alabama, Clemson, Miami, and Florida. This is not saying that they could play more top 25 opponents as the season progresses.
The Seminoles had two wins in 2024 so they are not included in the ranking. I believe that Florida State will play with a chip on its shoulder but I think fans would love to witness the Seminoles get back on the right track with 7 or 8 wins. That isn't the expectation at the program but it would be a sign of progress.
I would take Florida State beating two of the four opponents Alabama, Clemson, Miami, and Florida. If you think about it, the Crimson Tide and Hurricanes are introducing new signal-callers so it won't be easy but it isn't impossible.
Other teams on the Seminoles' 2025 schedule that could make some noise this year are Pittsburgh, Virginia Tech, and North Carolina State. Head football coach Mike Norvell has to find a way to be successful next year.
