Miami was on a bye after beating FSU. Talk about taking a team as your Super Bowl, a bye week before AND after that game? FSU football showed they are no longer a contender in the ACC last week with a loss to a Pittsburgh Panther team led by a freshman quarterback making his road start. Georgia Tech rolled a terrible Virginia Tech team.
Virginia, Louisville, California, and Duke were on a bye. SMU beat up a bad Stanford team. NC State got destroyed by Notre Dame, and Clemson beat a terrible Boston College team. North Carolina was on a bye.
Here are my updated ACC Power Rankings through seven weeks:
- Miami (5-0)
- Georgia Tech (6-0)
- Virginia (5-1)
- Louisville (4-1)
- Duke (4-2)
- SMU (4-2)
- California (4-2)
- Pittsburgh (4-2)
- FSU (3-3)
- NC State (4-3)
- Wake Forest (4-2)
- Syracuse (3-3)
- Clemson (3-3)
- Virginia Tech (2-5)
- North Carolina (2-3)
- Stanford (2-4)
- Boston College (1-5)
There are some interesting ACC games this week. Louisville travels to Miami and Georgia Tech travels to Duke. SMU travels to Clemson.
This week is do-or-die for Mike Norvell at Florida State. If they lose against Stanford on the road, that's likely the final nail in that coffin. If they struggle and win say 31-28, that might be enough too.
North Carolina travels out West to play California and the rest of the games really have little to no bearing on anything else. Will Miami lay that proverbial egg they always seem to do this week? Can Duke shake up things with a win over Georgia Tech?
