FSU football: 4-star TE commit Chase Loftin is the REAL DEAL
Florida State football recruiting has been underwhelming with the team's performance of losing to teams such as Georgia Tech, Boston College, Memphis, SMU, and Clemson.
The Seminoles had high expectations of the squad that accomplished tremendous feats in 2023 with an undefeated regular season and conference championship. Florida State had to replace several offensive weapons such as Jordan Travis, Trey Benson, Johnny Wilson, Keon Coleman, and Jaheim Bell.
I thought there was a more than a solid chance that the offense and team, in general, would take a step back in 2024, but I didn't think that it would be this drastic of a fall from grace. Florida State's offense is one of the worst in college football.
I never thought I would say that given Mike Norvell's track record as an offensive mind at Memphis and now at Florida State. But here we are...
I could pinpoint several aspects, but the drops from wide receivers and tight ends have been concerning. Fans were frustrated with the play from veteran tight end Kyle Morlock of the critical drops that he had. As a result, the coaching staff benched him for the likes of true freshman options Landen Thomas and Amaree Williams.
The tight end position is so important in Norvell's offensive scheme as they can be receivers, line up in the backfield, and block. Thomas showcased his talent versus Clemson, where he recorded seven receptions and 80 yards, and Williams even caught his first career collegiate touchdown.
The future of the tight-end position looks very bright with Thomas and Williams.
*Insert Jalen Ramsey quote*
If you are a tight end and you ain't going to Florida State then what are you doing? (or something like that).
Norvell always talks about how his offense is "built for playmakers" and the Seminoles have themselves a bonafide star at tight end for the 2025 recruiting cycle in four-star Chase Loftin from Milliard South High School in Omaha, Nebraska.
Even with the Seminoles having de-commitments to their program, Loftin has stayed pledged to Florida State since June. Through six games, he has recorded 516 receiving yards and seven touchdowns. Loftin has been a mismatch nightmare for opposing defenses during his senior season.
I cannot wait to see what Norvell and tight ends coach Chris Thomsen do with Loftin if he sticks to the program.
