We’re already through three weeks in the 2025 college football season, and we finally have a change at the top with FSU losing in double overtime on the road against Virginia. However, the Noles will have a chance to jump right back to that No. 1 spot, as they host the Miami Hurricanes this week in prime time.
Louisville and Georgia Tech avoided huge upsets, as both battled back from 17-point deficits to eke out wins. However, Georgia Tech literally had a win gifted to them. They had a player who jumped offside that wasn’t called, and the penalty would have given Wake Forest a first down that would have ended the game. Wake Forest hiked the ball, thinking they had a free play, and threw an incomplete pass. They had to punt, which allowed the Yellow Jackets time to kick a field goal to tie it with two seconds left and go to overtime, where Georgia Tech prevailed.
Syracuse lost its starting quarterback for the season in their big win over Clemson, so their entire season changed as it got destroyed by Duke. NC State led the entire game against Virginia Tech, only to lose at the end on a field goal. Virginia Tech appears to have new life since firing Brent Pry. California bounced back with a win after a bad loss last week.
Here are my updated ACC Power Rankings through five weeks:
- Miami (4-0) +1
- Louisville (4-0) +1
- Georgia Tech (5-0) +1
- Virginia (4-1) +1
- FSU (3-1) -5
- Duke (3-2) +1
- SMU (2-2)
- California (4-1) +2
- NC State (3-2)
- Syracuse (3-2) -4
- Pittsburgh (2-2)
- Wake Forest (2-2)
- Clemson (1-3)
- Virginia Tech (2-3) +3
- North Carolina (2-2)
- Stanford (2-3)
- Boston College (1-3) -1
Other than the Miami vs. FSU clash, the only other ACC game that’s somewhat interesting is Virginia traveling to Louisville. If Virginia can pull off another upset, they’d be in the driver’s seat because the rest of their schedule is fairly soft. Clemson travels to North Carolina, and Duke travels to California.
