This is unreal.

The FSU administration has paid well over 20 million for four wins over Power Four schools the past two seasons with Mike Norvell as its head coach. Apparently, that’s good enough for Mike Norvell to avoid getting fired and return for the 2026 season.

FSU administration released a statement on Sunday afternoon that has FSU fans distraught:

Translation

FSU didn't think it was financially responsible to spend the money to fire Mike Norvell and spend addtional money to hire a new coaching staff. It seems they plan to make changes in the back office and poor more resources in recruiting talent.

The only problem with that is that FSU is losing to teams with inferior talent on a consistent basis. Teams like NC State, Stanford, Pittsburgh, and Virginia don't spend anywhere near the amount that FSU does in recruiting.

FSU fans are PO

FSU fans have every right to be pissed off. This program has become a laughing stock under Mike Novell's leadership the past two seasons. Yes, there were statistical improvements over last year, but it would have been nearly impossible to not improve on those because they were so terrible.

Also, the stats are fool's gold, because FSU tends to choke when it matters most. If FSU players have to make a play, forget about it. Just see the NC State game on multiple occasions. The dropped passes against Clemson and the turnovers that happen in nearly every loss. I wrote about the how FSU couldn't afford to bring Mike Norvell back in 2026 a few weeks ago, and now those reasons will likely come to fruition.
