The defensive tackle position is one where I said the coaching staff needed to make some progress regarding summer official visitors. The Noles have been slow with that unit, but have made some progress over the last few weeks, with two official visitors set.

They added a third on Friday, four-star defensive tackle target Khing Thibodeaux announced he’ll take his official visit to FSU on June 19th:

These out-of-state targets are probably long shots or not the caliber FSU needs to sign

Thibodeaux is a solid target, listed at 6’2” and 260 pounds. The only problem is that he joins the other two out-of-state defensive targets with official visits set. Thibodeaux hails from Garland, Texas, located in the northeast part of the Lone Star State.

FSU has had some success recruiting Texas in the Mike Norvell era, but those targets have not emerged to become impact players.

Admittedly, it’s not a great year for defensive tackle prospects in the southeast, but it’s hard to believe they don’t have any in-state targets with official visits set. The resources it will take to get quality players from places like Alabama, Mississippi, and Texas will be steep.

It seems it would be better to go up to the Carolinas for defensive tackle targets, since that area has produced some solid ones over the past few years.

Nevertheless, we'll see what happens here. Thibodeaux received his offer from FSU last month, and I suppose it's a good sign he has set up the official visit. He'll officially visit Colorado on June 5th.

It's notable he has not received an offer from Texas or Texas A&M, though SMU has offered. The latter being the only in-state offer at this point is telling.
