It wasn't pretty, but FSU baseball (8-0) went on the road and won a sloppy affair 9-6 against a scrappy Jacksonville (3-5) ball team on Wednesday night. The FSU offense pounded out 16 hits and only had nine runs to show because they left 15 runners on the bases.

They scored runs in five of the first six innings, and starting pitcher Evan Chrest went five innings, allowing three earned runs on three hits, two walks, and three strikeouts.

He exited with an 8-3 lead, but the FSU bullpen allowed two runs in the bottom of the sixth and one more in the seventh. The Dolphins threatened big-time in the bottom of the eighth. An error and two walks from reliever Ben Barrett left the bases loaded with one out for Chris Knier to enter the contest.

Knier struck out the next two batters to get out of the jam when it looked like Jacksonville had all the momentum to tie or take the lead. Knier finished the game in the ninth, going 1.2 innings, allowing no runs, no hits, one walk, and four strikeouts.

Brody DeLamielleure led the Noles offensively with his first home run this season. He went 3-5 with three RBI. Jaxson West went 3-3 with two RBI. Alex Lodise went 3-6, and Gage Harrelson went 2-6 with an RBI. Freshman BJ Gibson went 2-4 with a double.

Jacob Marlowe pitched two innings in relief, allowing three runs(two earned), three hits, three strikeouts, and no walks. Ben Barrett struggled in 1/3 of an inning, walking two.

Jacksonville made six errors, which didn't help their cause. They had nine hits, including two home runs, but left 11 runners on base.

The game could have been much different if either offense had capitalized with runners on the bases more often.

It was the second consecutive start with at least five innings from Evan Chrest, which is good to see in midweek action. The Noles will host Georgetown for a three-game series beginning Friday at 5 p.m. ET.
