Florida State went to the West Coast as -18.5 betting favorites and lost 20-13 outright to a Stanford team with one win over a Power Four opponent.
The offense was non-existent, only scoring one touchdown in the game. FSU only managed to score a field goal in the second half. As bad as the defense has been in recent weeks, it was the offense that was to blame in this one.
Thomas Castellanos was 14 of 28 with several attempts that were off target and fairly ineffective as a runner. FSU went three-and-out on both possessions in the third quarter and had two turnovers on downs in the fourth quarter.
Thomas Castellenos took a huge hit on a targeting call and had to exit the game with 2:23 remaining. Freshman Kevin Sperry entered the game, and things looked too fast for the most part. However, Sperry managed to lead FSU down to the Stanford two-yard line after a huge pass play to Micahi Danzy. FSU got a pass-interference call in the end zone to extend the game for one more play.
FSU got an untimed play from the two-yard line and ran a shovel pass to Gavin Sawchuk who was ruled short of the goal line, although it looked like the ball crossed the plane.
FSU has to fire Mike Norvell because he has lost this team and program. There is no excuse for FSU to lose to a Stanford team who played without its starting quarterback, running back, and several others players.
