Florida State baseball has a pivotal home series this weekend against the arch-rival Miami Hurricanes, and it all starts tonight at 6 PM EST. The Seminoles currently have a 36-15 overall record (17-10 in conference), and need some help with the slight chance of accomplishing a top-eight national seed.

Some individuals thought the Seminoles would be taking a dip after their superstar Myles Bailey suffered a season-ending injury when sliding into second base. But, as fans know, the unconquered Seminole spirit never dies.

Head coach Link Jarrett is one of the better managers in all of college baseball. The Seminoles are also still on a mission to secure their first-ever national championship in program history. It is something that has cursed this team for years, and they finally want to get the job done.

Outfielder John Stuetzer could have a coming out party against Miami

Florida State's offense has been sluggish at times this season, especially after it lost its power bat in Myles Bailey. The sophomore was the heartbeat of the offensive firepower. However, this can't be the time to make excuses. Other players need to step up in Bailey's place.

The Seminoles have to sweep the Hurricanes at home even to have a chance at the top-eight seed. Their 25-3 home record at Dick Howser Stadium should speak for itself.

This feels like a series that freshman outfielder John Stuetzer can take advantage of with the Seminoles looking for a specific spark in the lineup. Stuetzer had three hits in five at-bats with two runs batted in in Sunday's win against Clemson on the road.

The Georgia native leads the team in hits, runs batted in, and stolen bases, so his impact is throughout the game. Miami wants nothing more than to ruin Florida State's chance at getting a top-eight national seed and ensure that they have a better standing in the NCAA Tournament.

Wes Mendes is on the mound tonight for the Seminoles, so the urgency is felt from the fan base. The hope is that Mendes can ensure that Florida State doesn't have to give him that much run support early on to put the pressure on him. This could be a legacy game for Stuetzer to build on against a rival.
