Florida State football had some major adjustments this offseason after the Seminoles finished the 2024 campaign with a 2-10 record. Head football coach Mike Norvell told the media that changes need to be made.
Fans were not confident that Norvell could make the adjustments, but the headman was headstrong on making the Seminoles back in the mix of championship contenders. He knew that what transpired during the 2024 season was not the standard at Florida State.
Florida State's offense was one of the worst in the country, where they struggled running the football. Norvell probably realized that he does not need to have play-calling duties anymore. He is now going to be the CEO of the program, where he will have oversight of what is going on instead of juggling too many responsibilities.
He decided to hire three new assistant coaches on the offensive side of the football, such as offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn, offensive line coach Herb Hand, and wide receivers coach Tim Harris Jr. They all come from the UCF Knights.
The Seminoles then added former Boston College quarterback transfer Thomas Castellanos, who formerly played at UCF in 2022 with Gus Malzahn. Castellanos is a dynamic dual-threat signal caller who can make opposing teams pay with his rushing ability.
However, the quarterback needs offensive linemen to block effectively for him. Florida State already has Vanderbilt offensive tackle transfer Gunnar Hansen in the fold. They are looking to get more as the Seminoles look to improve significantly under newly-hired offensive line coach Herb Hand.
The thought process was that they could get a couple of the UCF offensive lineman transfers since they had familiarity with Coach Hand. However, one target has come off the board is offensive tackle transfer Marcellus Marshall has committed to Minnestoa.
Marshall visited Florida State a couple of days ago. He has started 35 games in the past three years for UCF and Kent State. The Seminoles have targets still on the board, such as interior offensive lineman Addison Nichols (Arkansas), interior offensive lineman Caden Kitler (UCF), offensive tackle Adrian Medley (UCF), and newly offered offensive tackle Keagen Trost (Wake Forest).
