We wrote a few hours before the Indiana/Miami National Title game on Monday night that FSU could have a shot to land some more players at positions of need from the transfer portal.

Players who play for those two teams have 10 days to announce plans to enter the transfer portal. A major FSU recruiting target who signed with Miami has entered the transfer portal:

FSU still needs depth on its defensive front, and Artavius Jones has two years of college under his belt. He doesn’t have much experience, but he’s physically ready to play and would be a nice fit with the Desir Twins, Kevin Wynn, Daniel Lyons, and Ernest Rankins.

FSU got Jones on campus several times during his recruitment, hailing from the Florida panhandle, but he ultimately signed with Miami in the 2024 recruiting cycle. He redshirted in 2024 and only appeared in one game in 2025.

Miami didn’t do much rotating of its defensive players, often relying on its upperclassmen to play significant snaps. However, it’s somewhat concerning that Jones wasn’t able to get more reps this season. Nevertheless, he’s a talented kid from nearby. I’m not sure if FSU will pursue, but he’s exactly the kind of player I had in mind when I mentioned those two teams could have players that may enter the transfer portal.

FSU was the last school to get him on campus before he signed with Miami. Ideally, I’d want someone with more experience, but his three years of eligibility remaining bode well for what FSU needs. We’ll see if FSU still thinks highly of him and decides to throw their hat in the mix.
