Former FSU QB may have found greener pastures after all with second portal entry

Time will tell, but he still made the wrong decision to leave FSU

The quarterback position is a sore spot for FSU football fans after they apparently took a backup QB from the transfer portal for QB1. Former Stanford starter and backup at Auburn, Ashton Daniels, committed to the Noles on Tuesday, much to the dismay of FSU fans.

Ironically, a quarterback thought to be the future at FSU, Luke Kromenhoek, committed to Brian Hartline and the South Florida Bulls late Tuesday night:

Kromenhoek refused to sit and develop at FSU after playing a great deal as a true freshman at FSU in 2024. He also (his dad) wanted more money to stay at FSU, although it was clear he wasn’t ready to be the starter.

He transferred to Mississippi State after not drawing any interest anywhere else, only to sit on the bench and appear in only three games.

He entered the transfer portal again after it was clear he wasn’t going to play at Mississippi State. However, he had to drop to a school that’s not in a Power Four conference for the opportunity with a new head coach who’s never been a head coach. It’s unclear if USF will bring in another quarterback from the portal, but it could be an opportunity for Kromenhoek to finally improve his stock.

Ironically, he could have potentially been in line to be the starter at FSU going into the 2026 if he had stayed at FSU after the 2024 season. It’s what’s wrong with college football and the transfer portal. Players have no patience and want to get paid handsomely before they can contribute anything on the field. Maybe Kromenhoek can have a resurgence at USF, but it should be a lesson for all FSU players looking to enter the portal when they haven’t proven anything yet.
