Micah Pettus did not hear his name during last weekend's NFL Draft, but the former FSU offensive tackle is going to get an opportunity to prove his worth with the Kansas City Chiefs.
Pettus will attend the Chiefs rookie minicamp on May 1–2 with the hopes of impressing Andy Reid and his staff enough to get an undrafted free agent contract that includes an invitation to the mandatory minicamp in June and, eventually, the full-blown training camp in late July.

The bad news for Pettus is that he didn't get a UDFA contract over the weekend. Those are standard three-year deals that approach a million dollars annually and include a small amount of guaranteed money. The good news is that Pettus can earn one this weekend and even if he doesn't, Pettus can make himself available to be invited to another minicamp the following weekend. So, realistically he will have a couple of bites at the apple.
Former FSU OL Micah Pettus will participate in the Kansas City Chiefs' minicamp
Pettus, who spent much of the offseason working on his conditioning and transformed his body, should get a good look with the Chiefs. They have made some moves on the offensive line, most notably cutting tackle Jawaan Taylor, a high-priced free agent acquisition that graded out as one of the worst offensive lineman in the league last season.
Kansas City did not draft any offensive lineman this year, choosing to focus most of their early picks on stocking the defense with young talent. So, Pettus has the opportunity to prove that he will give the Chiefs some options with depth.
Pettus brings a ton of experience to the table, over 40 starts during his collegiate career between FSU and Ole Miss. He started 11 games last year and has most of his experience at right tackle. Pettus is probably known more as a run blocker than for his ability in pass protection, so there are areas for him to improve. He has always been regarded as a tough competitor and was a major part of the Seminoles' improvements on offense last season.
Here's hoping that Pettus turns some heads this weekend and gets that free agent contract that he's been working so hard for.
