What a great early Christmas gift for FSU football fans. FSU coaches have been working diligently in the transfer portal to acquire quality players for major positions of need.
The offensive line was the biggest and most important need of all positions, and FSU coaches added its third offensive lineman from the portal on Tuesday afternoon when Ole Miss OL Micah Pettus announced his commitment to the Noles.
Pettus was on campus a few days ago, and crystal ball predictions for FSU started showing shortly after. However, those are not always accurate. The 6'7" and 350 pound offensive tackle joins Gunnar Hansen and Adrian Medley on the offensive line, and is the 10th transfer portal addition.
Pettus gives FSU at least seven offensive linemen with good experience going into 2025. He was among the top run-blocking offensive linemen nationally, which is important for a Gus Malzahn offense that will want to establish the run.
FSU offensive line coach Herb Hand has wasted no time adding quality players from the transfer portal. It's also a testament to FSU's collective, The Battle's End because these types of players don't come cheap in today's NIL era.
Hand has a good reputation for developing talent, and getting this type of talent should bode well for a quicker-than-expected offensive turnaround in 2025.
The Noles were among the worst in nearly every offensive statistical category, and it all starts with the offensive line's inability to block in the run-and-pass game. Mike Norvell said things would get fixed quickly, and there's evidence to suggest he's on the right path.
