Florida State football had a successful 2023 campaign that included an undefeated regular season and a conference championship. The Seminoles had to battle through adversity with the injury of quarterback Jordan Travis.
They completed the mission by defeating the likes of North Alabama, Florida, and Louisville to capture that feat without Travis. The College Football Playoff spoiled the wonderful accomplishment by including a one-loss Alabama Crimson Tide in the "invitational tournament."
When Florida State was left out of the playoff, the Seminoles were matched up with Georgia in the Orange Bowl. The game was considered meaningful since Florida State did everything it needed to do with an undefeated season and was still not included.
When the game was announced, there were players from the Seminoles' roster who decided to opt out since the Orange Bowl was meaningless, and they did Florida State dirty. The level of unprofessionalism was on display with favoritism towards the SEC darling Alabama.
While much of the discussion was centered around a bunch of the Seminoles' players opting out of the bowl game, redshirt senior linebacker Kalen DeLoach decided to go out with a bang as he played in the 63-3 loss to Georgia.
The veteran wanted to leave an impression after going through the difficult final season of former head football coach Willie Taggart in 2019, as well as four seasons with current head football coach Mike Norvell.
DeLoach was seen being emotional exiting the bowl game. He went on to try his luck in the NFL, but he went undrafted. He was eventually picked up by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but he didn't last long there.
Luckily enough, the Jacksonville Jaguars announced that they picked up the Florida State linebacker to the practice squad. While I know it is still a long shot for DeLoach, I am happy that he is getting his opportunity to shine in the state of Florida.
