Former Florida State softball standout visiting rival Florida Gators is ultimate betrayal

If she goes there, it'll erase everything she did in the Garnet and Gold

The way former Florida State softball standout and Tallahassee native Jaysoni Beachum announced she was leaving the Noles to enter the transfer portal never sat well with me. It always felt like something was off with the whole situation because it seemed so out of the blue, and the “time to move on” part seemed like something had happened.

Maybe it did, because she apparently didn’t have a plan after entering. Beachum visited Oklahoma State a few days ago, which isn’t a terrible program, but it’s not one you leave Florida State for unless they just presented a boatload of money.

That didn’t happen, since she didn’t sign there, but where she visited on Monday has rubbed every Florida State fan the wrong way. Beachum posted a photo of herself in a Florida Gator uniform while taking a visit there on Monday:

Jaysoni Beachum will make FSU fans forget about what she did in Tallahassee real quick

I get it, in today’s era that rivals are not what they used to be, but that shouldn’t apply to Beachum since she grew up in Tallahassee and has been an FSU fan since birth. The fact that she actually visited Florida State’s biggest in-state rival (since Miami doesn’t have a softball program) and put on that nasty orange and blue is disgusting and the ultimate betrayal. It doesn’t matter if she signs there or not; she’s already tainted now.

I don’t understand it. She had three great years at Florida State and could have gone down as one of the best Florida State players in recent history. I’m sure they were interested in keeping her. However, now it’s like she’s erasing what she worked so hard to create over the past three years.

She hasn’t done any interviews to elaborate on that social media post announcing her departure. She’s one of the highest-rated players in the portal, but it’s not like Texas, Oklahoma, Texas Tech, Tennessee, or Alabama have been knocking on her door to get her to sign. Maybe she’ll eventually get around to seeing those schools. She’s officially been in the portal a week, but announced her intentions well in advance. You would have thought she would have had a clear idea of what she was planning to do.

Beachum quietly had a junior season nearly as good as her freshman season, when she won the TUCCI/NFCA Division I Freshman of the Year. She was the first ACC player and Florida State player to earn that award. She would have been a valuable bat in the Florida State lineup for the Seminoles in 2027. However, her defense at third base would have been just as valuable. It’ll be interesting to see how Coach Lonni Alameda moves players around to compensate for the loss.

FSU has added one major addition from the transfer portal in Stetson’s Nicole Edmiaston and will likely add a few more position players. FSU has one of the best freshmen in the nation coming in 2027 in McLaine Hudson. It’s a shame Beachum is entertaining going to the rival Gators, but that’s a decision she’d have to live with, and Florida State fans would have two opportunities to remind her about it next year.
