Florida State softball fans were fearing the worst with potentially their best player deciding to enter the transfer portal. That hasn’t happened yet, but arguably, Florida State’s second-best player announced plans to enter.
Florida State third baseman Jaysoni Beachum made the announcement on her social media page on Tuesday afternoon:
Thank you to FSU and Team 41, 42, & 43 for the opportunity. This was definitely not an easy decision, but it’s time to move on. #transferportal pic.twitter.com/mMRqc3vFcH

This is a big loss for Lonni Alameda and the FSU softball program.
As you can see, Beachum grew up locally and has been a Florida State fan for life. She has had three incredible years in the Garnet and Gold, including winning the TUCCI/NFCA Division I Freshman of the Year. She was also only the third true freshman in school history to be named an NFCA All-American.
Beachum hit 37 home runs and drove in 140 runs over the past three seasons, with a career .375 batting average. Her defensive work at third base was elite, and probably even underrated, to be honest. The interesting part about her social media post is the last part. Â
"It's time to move." It seems like a weird thing to say for a player who's been in Tallahassee for three years and grew up there. All of the rumors about leaving were centered around Isa Torres, not Beachum. Now, I wonder if the rumors about Torres potentially leaving will heat up again. Beachum is an excellent player and will be a huge loss for Lonni Alameda to replace.
I wrote about needing to use the transfer portal to improve the team. There's no doubt that Florida State will have to hit the transfer portal to replace Beachum. Hopefully, they can retain Isa Torres and bring in some more production to make FSU competitive with the elite program nationally.
Florida State fans will now hold their breath to see what happens with Isa Torres. If they lose both, it will be a huge gut-punch to the Florida State fan base.
