Florida State football's coaching staff has worked relentlessly on the recruiting trail, with many 2027 prospects coming to campus for Junior Day events. The Seminoles' fan base wants to see a top-ten recruiting class.
Head football coach Mike Norvell has not solidified a top-ten recruiting class during his time at Florida State. Individuals want to see the Seminoles step up in that department.
We recently wrote an article on the site about defensive back Mekhi Williams taking an official visit with Miami in June, so the Hurricanes have been getting involved with the four-star prospect that the Seminoles thought they could keep.
Florida State is no longer involved with four-star cornerback Bryce Williams
Florida State has two defensive back commitments with four-star Mekhi Williams and three-star Jemari Foreman. The Seminoles are in limbo with defensive backs coach Patrick Surtain Sr. being let go from the program.
This caused frustration from the fan base because Surtain Sr. was a solid recruiter, and players listened to what he had to say. The Seminoles now have cornerbacks coach Blue Adams on staff, and I will admittedly say that I have no idea how his unit will pan out.
Prospects that were either committed or interested in Florida State because of Surtain Sr are no longer wanting to come to Tallahassee. As a result, the Seminoles are having to change their target board around to hopefully get recruits to pledge to Florida State.
One recruit that change his mind was four-star Bryce Williams, who no longer has Florida State in his top schools list.
NEWS: 4-star CB Bryce Williams is down to 6 schools. He talks his favorites, when he could commit and what will help one school move to the top.

It would be unfortunate to see Williams go to Florida or Clemson because Florida State plays them every season. The defensive back had 22 tackles, one interception, and 12 pass deflections during the 2025 season (according to MaxPreps).
The defensive back position shouldn't be an area that the fan base should panic, since that is always an area that the Seminoles can recruit. However, it is important to see how Florida State performs in the 2026 season to finish with a strong recruiting class.
