Florida State football is trying to change the narrative around its program. Having four losing seasons in six years doesn't exactly have high schoolers jumping up and down to play for the Seminoles. 2026 has to get better in a hurry.
Head football coach Mike Norvell was retained this season by the administration, where some of the fan base thought that it was a bad idea. While I am not here picking up my pitchforks for Norvell, I know that the Stanford loss hurt a ton of fans' confidence in him leading the Seminoles in the right direction.
However, we cannot go back and change the past, and the decision has been made to keep him around. The foundation has to be set in teams of player acquisition and high school recruiting.
Florida State schedules an official visit with four-star defensive back commit Mekhi Williams
Florida State has five commitments in its 2027 recruiting class. The number should start to skyrocket as we enter the summer months, but the recruits need to see proof of concepts, just like the fan base does.
One recruit that Florida State is having to work extremely hard to keep is four-star defensive back Mekhi Williams from Ruskin, Florida. The arch-rival Miami Hurricanes have been the team to monitor in the recruitment.
Their coaching staff has come to see him, and head football coach Mike Norvell also took an in-home visit to solidify the relationship. The Hurricanes have an official visit scheduled with Williams on June 19th, so it was important to see where the Seminoles came into the equation with their trip.
The defensive back announced on social media that he would be officially visiting Tallahassee from June 5th to 7th.

To make matters worse, Miami has a later official visit where he is taking a trip to Coral Gables from June 19th to 21st. This shouldn't give anyone in the fan base warm and fuzzy feelings with the Hurricanes coming fresh off a National Championship Game appearance this past season.
The Seminoles have to really knock their official visit out of the park and get him to shut down his recruitment. However, the chances are that he flips to Miami before the season starts, or this recruitment goes all the way to December for the Early Signing Period.
