Florida State recruiting has only six commitments for its 2027 class, which ranks 24th-best in the 247Sports Composite. There isn't much reason to press the panic button at this time because the coaching staff has plenty of prospects officially visiting this summer.
However, during head coach Mike Norvell's tenure at Florida State, we have seen the Seminoles' program routinely finish around the twentieth spot in the rankings. This is not the expectation for the fan base, as they always hope that Florida State can consistently be in the top ten.
Former Florida State coaches Bobby Bowden, Jimbo Fisher, and even Willie Taggart recruited at a high level. This isn't to say that Norvell isn't a good recruiter, because I believe that he relates well to the youngsters and is a genuine individual.
However, the losses continue to mount for Florida State, while other programs are taking a next step in this new era of college football. The administration remains confident in Norvell's abilities as a coach, as they decided to retain him for the 2026 season.
Florida State misses out on highly-touted defensive lineman Avrian Pauley to Alabama
Florida State already has a commitment from four-star defensive lineman Anthony Cavallaro in its 2027 recruiting class. Position coach Nick Williams has done a tremendous job with recruiting and getting kids on campus.
Class of 2027 three-star Avrian Pauley from Mobile, Alabama, was on campus recently, and even mentioned that he could potentially be back in a few weeks before taking his official visit to Florida State on the weekend of June 5th. Unfortunately, Pauley decided to commit to the home-state Alabama Crimson Tide.
Even though it is a bit of a bummer, the Seminoles do have other defensive linemen on their target board such as four-star Sam LeJeune, four-star Santana Harvey, four-star Jabarrius Garror, four-star Frederick Ards, four-star Desmond Malpress, three-star Elijah Cox, three-star Jaxon Holly, three-star TK Cunningham, and three-star Jason Lewis.
While Mobile, Alabama, isn't primarily a hotbed for prospects to commit to Alabama and Auburn, the coaching staff has to be wary of putting an abundance of resources into talent that isn't from the states of Florida and Georgia.
