Florida State softball spent Wednesday accumulating several ACC awards while waiting to see who they will face in the ACC Tournament Quarterfinals. Their opponent will be a team they swept a couple of weeks ago on the road, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.
No. 9-seeded Georgia Tech blasted No. 8 seed Notre Dame 13-3 in five innings on Wednesday for the opportunity to face No. 1-seeded FSU.
The three-game series was closer than a sweep. FSU needed a no-hitter from Jazzy Francik to beat the Yellow Jackets 4-0 in the series opener. However, it was a 1-0 game going into the top of the sixth inning before FSU erupted for three insurance runs. Isa Torres beat them by herself with two home runs.

The second game saw Florida State jump out to a 4-0 lead before Georgia Tech trimmed the lead to 4-3 after five innings. FSU held on for the 4-3 win behind some great pitching from Ashtyn Danley and Francik.
The third game saw Georgia Tech take a 4-2 lead into the top of the fourth inning and a 5-4 lead going into the top of the seventh. FSU tied the game on a double from freshman Anna Hinde and ultimately won 8-5 in nine innings.
Florida State got a lift when Tennessee lost its first game of the SEC Tournament when it comes to a top eight national seed.
Georgia Tech bats over .300 as a team and has 71 home runs (nine more than FSU) and an on-base percentage of .401. They have two solid pitchers who did a good job of containing most of FSU’s offense for long stretches during the series.
One major difference is that their defense isn’t nearly as good as Florida State’s. The teams were fairly evenly matched, and it was one big inning here and there that was the major difference in each game.
Florida State can’t take the Yellow Jackets lightly, and a win will be a valuable Quad 1 win for the Noles, especially with Tennessee losing against Ole Miss in their first game of the SEC Tournament. Â
