It has been an unfortunate past few days for Florida State athletics, with multiple events being postponed or canceled due to Hurricane Isaias. The soccer team lost a key match due to the weather, and the men's basketball team canceled an exhibition against Mississippi State in Pensacola.
Despite the chaos, there have been some positive bits of news as well, as basketball season is nearly here. The volleyball team has looked great over the past few matches ahead of two difficult challenges against No. 2 Pittsburgh and No. 5 SMU. Additionally, the baseball team dropped its schedule for the upcoming 2027 season.
Florida State Soccer postpones match against No. 1 North Carolina
The Seminoles had multiple events affected by the weather, but the most important was the soccer match against the Tar Heels. The two ranked teams were set to meet at the Seminole Soccer Complex on October 9, but the match was ultimately postponed.
Efforts are reportedly being made to reschedule the match, but finding a time for both teams to meet again could be difficult. Florida State has three matches in the next 11 days against No. 4 Wake Forest, Pittsburgh, and No. 18 Notre Dame. Afterwards, the team will go straight into the final three matches of the regular season.
North Carolina will have a match the day before Florida State meets Notre Dame, and then both teams have matches on October 29. It might be difficult to squeeze in a match given the remaining schedule for both teams, which would be a big loss for the Seminoles. Florida State can truly prove itself with a win over the top-ranked Tar Heels, who lost to the Seminoles last season.
Men's basketball continues preparations for upcoming exhibition against Auburn
Among the teams that canceled events due to the weather was the men's basketball team, which canceled an exhibition against Mississippi State that was set to take place in Pensacola. Canceling an exhibition is not the end of the world, and now Florida State has additional time to prepare for a trip to Birmingham, Alabama.
The Seminoles will be taking on the Auburn Tigers for the first official exhibition for the team ahead of the 2026-27 season. Auburn has not played any open exhibitions yet, but will face Florida State, Alabama, and Samford ahead of the season.
The result of exhibitions should not be taken very seriously, as many coaches are working out different players and different lineups before it truly counts. The game will give fans a first look at what Florida State could look like ahead of a pivotal season for coach Luke Loucks.
In Year 1, Loucks finished with a record of 18-15 after suffering two five-game losing streaks during the season. Florida State got off to a 7-6 start before entering ACC play, where the team lost its first five conference games. Loucks needs to avoid a slow start to both the non-conference and conference portions of the year to contend for a spot in the NCAA Tournament.

Florida State and Florida will meet for the first time on March 16 before meeting again on March 30 and April 27. Last season, the Seminoles went 0-3 against the Gators with just six runs to show for.
