The Florida State Seminoles have had a busy few days on the courts, fields, and in the offices after major news broke. Changes are coming to Tallahassee, and the lasting effect of the changes will not only help produce more competitive results but could also usher in a far more competitive NIL landscape. Here is everything from the week that went down in Tallahassee.
Florida State fires AD Michael Alford a week after the Seminoles-Mustangs power outage
Florida State will be moving forward without athletic director Michael Alford after officially announcing his firing on Monday. Alford loses his job just over a week after the lights went out in Doak Campbell Stadium ahead of the Seminoles' game against SMU.
One of the biggest stories from Week 1 of the college football season was the prime-time power outage in Tallahassee that forced Florida State and SMU to kick off nearly two hours late. The lone college game on the schedule, no NFL games to compete with, and somehow the Seminoles managed to fumble an excellent opportunity. The real kicker is the fact that the stadium renovations had just been completed, and the bill was far from cheap.
Junior midfielder Sam Erbach records six points in three games
The women's soccer team has had a difficult start to the 2026 season, with a record of 4-1-2 after drawing the last two games in a row. The Seminoles' offense has not had quite the same bite without the help of Jordynn Dudley, but the transfer midfielder Sam Erbach has been doing her best at filling the massive shoes of Dudley.
Erbach began her collegiate career with Xavier and won Freshman of the Year and Most Outstanding Offensive Player awards in her two seasons with the Musketeers. Erbach finished the 2025 season with the second-most points in the NCAA (52). The midfielder has begun to find her groove with the Seminoles, notching six points in the last three matches.
Florida State women's soccer started ACC play with a 2-2 draw against NC State, and now must face Louisville to end the month of September for the team.

The Kyleene Filimaua attack dominance has continued after the senior outside hitter dropped 17 kills in the sweep over North Alabama. Filimaua hit .429 in the attack while adding six digs and four total blocks in one of her most efficient performances of the season. Freshman outside hitter Sofia Moss also had a productive night, recording her second double-double of the season with 14 kills and 10 digs.
Florida State volleyball is back in action on Friday against No. 10 Florida in the Tully Gymnasium after picking up the first sweep of the season.

The women's golf team is back in action at the Jackson T. Stephens Cup at PGA Frisco after a dominant win in Michigan at Folds of Honor Collegiate. The Seminoles played 36 holes on the first day of the cup, getting off to a rough start with a nine-over 297. A more positive response in the second round was not quite enough to save the team, as Florida State finished the day in fifth place out of six teams.
The Seminoles have struggled as a team in the sweltering Texas heat, but junior Alexandra Gazzoli has been leading the way. Gazzoli tees off today with a one-under par as the only Florida State golfer under par. Winning the cup might be out of the equation for Florida State, but Gazzoli could push the team into match play on Wednesday with the Seminoles on the cusp of surviving the cut.

Basketball season in Tallahassee is still a ways away, but coach Luke Loucks provided some key updates on the staff ahead of the 2026-27 season. Loucks announced that Chris Kent, the director of player development, had accepted the vacant Austin Spurs coaching job to become the next head coach. Kent spent the 2025-26 season with the Seminoles, but will return to the G League in a much more prominent role this time.
Loucks also revealed that Justin Lindner would be promoted, and Sam Logwood would be joining the staff for the season. Lindner previously joined the staff as the assistant director of player development, working directly with Kent, but will now take on the role of assistant coach. Lindner had a career with Florida State on the basketball court that spanned six seasons, and his original hiring was a notable one to the fans.
Logwood joins the staff as the director of video and scouting for the Seminoles after stops with CSU Bakersfield, Oregon, and the Sacramento Kings.
