Another week of competition brings on another exciting edition of the Florida State Seminoles news roundup. Leading the way this week is Seminoles' goalkeeper Kate Ockene after the talented keeper received the first ACC weekly accolade of her young career. While Ockene had to play in the heat, the women's golf team is cooling off in Michigan with a winning performance.
Kate Ockene earns ACC Goalkeeper of the Week honors for the first time in her career
Florida State women's soccer and Kate Ockene are starting to become synonymous after an extremely successful freshman season. Ockene returned to the starting role for her sophomore season, and the goalkeeper is already bringing in plenty of recognition. The ACC named Ockene Goalkeeper of the Week for the first time in her career after recording 11 saves in two games.
The Seminoles took on No. 25 Georgia first, and Ockene delivered three saves in the 2-1 win away from home. Florida State then faced Rice in a difficult 1-1 tie, where Ockene was able to stop eight shots to prevent the loss.
Florida State women's golf leads the Folds of Honor Collegiate
The men's and women's golf teams traveled up to Grand Haven, Michigan, where Florida State and Michigan State are co-hosting the Folds of Honor Collegiate. The women's team has been stealing the show; however, the Seminoles have finished the event with a three-under par.
Haruhi Nakatani led the Seminoles with a six-under, which tied Nakatani with Mia Hammond of Duke for first-place. Sophia Fullbrook also delivered a one-under to help push Florida State into the lead as a team in Michigan.
Link Jarrett lands a 2028 class commitment
It might be the offseason at the moment, but coach Link Jarrett is still working hard on the recruiting trail for Florida State baseball. Jarrett got the Seminoles off to a quick start in the 2028 cycle with a commitment from Montverde Academy pitcher Sid Goecke.
Goecke is a young left-handed pitcher with a growing arsenal of pitches after a solid sophomore season on the mound. Pitch mix and velocity are key to the success of Goecke, and spending time around a great staff could allow him to develop into a fearsome collegiate pitcher. Jarrett also added another commitment to the 2028 class hours later, as fellow left-handed pitcher Brody Radwick announced his commitment to Florida State.
Florida State volleyball upsets Kansas, kicks off season with a 3-3 record
The Seminoles made a statement on the volleyball court in Nashville, Tennessee, against No. 16 Kansas with a thrilling win in five sets. Florida State coach Lindsay Allman was able to secure her first ranked win with the program after being promoted in February from an associate role. Outside hitter Kyleene Filimaua led the attack with a season-high 23 kills and 16 digs.
Florida State faced Lipscomb the next day in continuation of the LUV Invitational, and the Seminoles lost the contest in four sets. The loss to Lipscomb could have been part of the hangover from a ranked win, but another four-set loss to Auburn stung, as the Seminoles now drop to 3-3 on the season.
Allman will not have much time to fully evaluate the needs of the team, as Florida State will play five home games in the next 14 days. Plenty of experimenting might be seen on the court with opponents like Louisiana, FIU, and North Alabama set to visit Tallahassee.
