The college football season is fast approaching, and that means there’s almost too much news to keep up with. And football isn’t the only sport about to get underway for the 2026 season. Eric Luallen named the new voice of Doak Campbell Stadium
This offseason, Florida State made the decision not to retain Woody Hayes as the public address announcer at Doak Campbell Stadium for the 17th year. On Monday, the school announced his replacement, Eric Luallen.
Luallen is a former FSU football player and the current play-by-play voice for FSU baseball. He played offensive line for Bobby Bowden from 1986-89. He began broadcasting for FSU baseball in 2007, so he’s a familiar face and familiar voice for Noles fans.
Micahi Danzy and Mandrell Desir crack Bruce Feldman’s Freaks List
It’s no surprise that Micahi Danzy, an All-ACC Track and Field performer in the 400-meter, cracked Bruce Feldman’s 2026 Freaks List, which aims to find the ‘freakiest’ athletes in college football. The 6-foot-1, 194-pound receiver checked in at No. 12 ahead of his junior season.
Feldman highlighted Danzy’s speed, of course, but also his power. He cleaned 335 pounds this offseason and, despite adding a bit of weight, is still able to hit 23 miles per hour on the field. Mike Norvell has spoken about Danzy adding more nuance to his route-running to become a more complete receiver this offseason, but even without it in 2025, he averaged 42.2 yards on his six touchdown catches last season, proving himself to be an elite deep threat.
Danzy was joined on the list by Mandrell Desir, who, after arriving as a three-star recruit in the 2025 class, recorded 6.5 sacks in his true freshman season. Mandrell, according to Feldman’s reporting, bench pressed 405 pounds, squatted 515 and consistently hit 20.2 MPH on the GPS tracking.

Florida State will be rolling out the red carpet in Week 1 when SMU comes to Doak Campbell Stadium. It’s one of the marquee matchups of Labor Day weekend, with primetime billing on Monday night, and it will include two of the top recruits in the 2028 class, who are planning to pay Tallahassee a visit.
Recently, five-star edge rusher Kameron McGee scheduled his gameday trip to Florida State, and on Monday, five-star defensive lineman Prince Che announced that he’ll also be in attendance.

Che is ranked as the No. 2 DL and the No. 12 overall player in the 2028 class.

Che has 13 gameday visits set for the 2026 season, including one earlier on Labor Day weekend, visiting LSU on Saturday. So, this doesn’t necessarily give the Seminoles a leg up in his recruitment, but it is still a good sign that five-star talent is at least paying the program some mind.

Florida State hosts Clemson on Halloween, and the Seminoles will also be hosting 2027 defensive lineman Jeremiah Mark. The 6-foot-5, 275-pound rising senior is unranked by the recruiting industry. However, the former basketball player has recently had power conference offers pouring in, so he won’t be a zero-star for long.

The Picayune, Mississippi product is also set to visit LSU, Texas, Ole Miss, Florida, Texas A&M, Alabama, Miami, Michigan, Ohio State, and Georgia Tech.

On Sunday night, Florida State completed its second scrimmage of three scheduled for this year’s fall camp. Running back Quintrevion Wisner and linebacker Izayia Williams both missed the scrimmage with lingering injuries, but other than that, the Seminoles have navigated the preseason relatively unscathed.
"We've been pretty clean just on the bumps and bruises that we've had. I don't think that anything at this point is going to stretch into the season," Norvell said to reporters following the scrimmage. He admitted they're still evaluating the bumps and bruises sustained during Sunday night’s action.
