If you’re heading to Doak Campbell Stadium for a Florida State Seminoles game this season, you’ll be greeted by a different voice than you had for the last 16 years. FSU confirmed to the Tallahassee Democrat that it made the decision not to retain public address announcer Woody Hayes for his 17th year in the press box.
Florida State has not yet announced who will replace Hayes and become just the fourth PA announcer in the past 42 years of the stadium. While Hayes will no longer be part of the gameday atmosphere in the fall, he’ll be busy in the winter as the PA voice of Florida State men’s and women’s basketball, a role he has held for 25 years.
Speaking with the Democrat, Hayes delivered a message to the fanbase. “To those who have supported me over the years, I’m eternally grateful, and I love each and every one of you… And that’s good for a Seminole farewell."
Luke Loucks still without a 2027 commit after Kevin Savage miss
Luke Loucks brought in a huge high school class in 2026, adding eight players to his Florida State roster, along with his veteran-laden transfer portal haul. The goal is obviously to retain much of that group, so he won’t be after such a significant influx of talent in the 2027 class. However, that likely doesn’t mean he’s thrilled to currently be empty-handed after missing out on four-star point guard Kevin Savage.
On Sunday, the 5-foot-11 Marietta, Georgia, product committed to Purdue over Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech, and UCLA. Rated as a 4-star, he’s one of the top point guards in the country despite his size.
While the miss stings, it may allow Loucks, with his NBA background and belief in positional size and length on the perimeter, to return to that philosophy in the 2027 class, rather than pursuing a pretty clear outlier.
Local recruit has no interest in FSU
Kamaree Crumity is one of the top players in Florida for the 2028 class, but he’s not just an in-state recruit; the four-star cornerback is a Tallahassee recruit from Lincoln High School. However, when he cut down his recruitment to 10 teams over the weekend, he didn’t include the Seminoles.
It’s not as though Florida State hasn’t shown interest. He visited unofficially multiple times and attended multiple camps at FSU. Apparently, though, it wasn’t enough for the Noles to stay on his radar. While it’s just one recruit, it’s not a great sign for Norvell as his in-state recruiting woes are only getting worse.
More: CBS projections see Florida State getting back to a bowl game
The season isn’t exactly around the corner, but with the calendar turning to July, predictions are starting to trickle out. CBS’s Brad Crawford was among those who submitted his projections for the Seminoles.
Crawford sees FSU going 6-6 and getting to a bowl game for the first time since the 2023 Orange Bowl. That’s a step in the right direction, but Crawford isn’t sure it’ll be a big enough one.
"Six wins might buy another month of football, but it's not going to quiet the growing concerns surrounding the Seminoles' trajectory," Crawford added. "At a place where competing for ACC championships is the standard, a .500 regular season would leave decision-makers with a choice to make," Crawford wrote.
