Another week of Florida State athletics battling on the fields and courts means another edition of Renegade's Roundup. Since the last edition, Florida State hit the gridiron in Hard Rock Stadium to battle against Miami in what would be an overtime loss, but one player in particular shone.

The soccer team hit the field twice over the weekend for two important games, as the likelihood of getting the previously postponed game against UNC back continues to fizzle out. The volleyball team also took on two difficult matches themselves, but the results were not exactly as exciting as the soccer team's. And to cap it off, the women's basketball team returned to play against Tampa for the first of two exhibitions before tipping off the regular season.

Ashton Daniels earns ACC Quarterback of the Week for the second time this season

For the second time this season, Florida State quarterback Ashton Daniels earned ACC Quarterback of the Week honors, sharing the weekly award with Gio Lopez of Wake Forest. The Seminoles were unable to defeat Miami in overtime for what would have been a massive upset, but Daniels looked nearly perfect in the game.

Daniels accounted for all five of Florida State's touchdowns against Miami, tossing four and running in his 11th rushing touchdown of the season. Daniels is now tied with Dalvin Cook and Antone Smith for the most rushing touchdowns through the first seven games of a season in program history. Last time Daniels was recognized by the ACC, he rushed for five touchdowns against Virginia, which became a new program record.

The 2026 season started off on a negative note for Daniels, with a couple uninspiring performances and plenty of calls from the fans to make a change. However, the quarterback has started to turn things around, with a minimum of three touchdowns in his last three games. Daniels is now tied with UCLA running back Wayne Knight for the fourth-most rushing touchdowns in the FBS with 11.

Grace Hoytink, Kate Ockene earn ACC Player of the Week honors after wins over No. 4 Wake Forest, Pitt

Florida State soccer is starting to heat up after a slow stretch of games, and two players were recognized by the ACC after the team went 2-0 on the weekend. Defender Grace Hoytink and goalkeeper Kate Ockene both received ACC Player of the Week honors at their respective positions.

The Seminoles started the weekend with a 2-0 win against No. 4 Wake Forest that was just the kind of ranked win the team needed. Shortly after, Florida State took down Pitt in a 2-1 contest to extend the current winning streak to three games. The wins have not always been there this season, but the Seminoles have avoided a loss in the last seven games.

Ockene, who previously earned the same honor earlier in the season, recorded eight saves and one goal allowed during the weekend. Ockene now has 32 saves this season, which is two more than she had last year despite playing four more games in 2025.

Hoytink spent last season with Kentucky before transferring to Florida State, and her presence has been felt since the game against Louisville. Hoytink recorded a goal, an assist, and two shots on goal against Pitt, and her goal ended up being the game-winning score.

Just four games remain in the regular season for Florida State, starting with a clash against Notre Dame on October 24.

More: Volleyball suffers losses to No. 2 Pitt, No. 5 SMU

After putting together a strong four-match win streak, Florida State's momentum on the volleyball court has come to a screeching halt. The Seminoles began the most difficult stretch of the schedule on October 16 with a road match against No. 2 Pitt.

The Panthers ran straight through the Seminoles, taking home a quick 3-0 sweep as Florida State packed its things and got back on the road. The Seminoles played again on October 18 in Dallas against No. 5 SMU, and the result was another similar sweep. Now, Florida State returns home to the Tully Gymnasium to host No. 3 Louisville for what will be the final match of the gauntlet.

ACC volleyball is not for the weak, and this three-match stretch was always expected to be the most difficult part of the schedule for Florida State. The Seminoles did everything right ahead of the matches, putting in great performances against NC State, Wake Forest, and Clemson. This is certainly a talented team, but they may not have enough punch just yet to reach the top of the conference.

More: Women's basketball defeats Tampa in an exhibition to open the preseason

Basketball season is nearly here, and the Florida State women's team took home a win in their first exhibition. The Seminoles hosted Tampa on October 18 to tip off the preseason and managed to walk away with the 72-44 win.

Sophomore guard Jasmine Nivar led the way for Florida State on offense, with 14 points and three rebounds while making five of her seven shots from the field. Emma Risch, Tatum Greene, and Sole Williams all recorded eight points.

The biggest story from the exhibition involves freshman guard Morgan Stewart, who recorded five points, four rebounds, and four assists in her first bit of collegiate action. Stewart, a former four-star recruit, could become a very solid player off the bench this season for the Seminoles, and she will receive another chance to prove herself before the season begins.

The basketball preseason tends to be a short one, and the Seminoles have one more exhibition against Palm Beach Atlantic on October 22 before entering the regular season. Florida State officially tips off the season on November 2 against Merrimack inside the Tucker Center.

Following games against North Florida (November 5), Florida A&M (November 8), and West Florida (November 11), the Seminoles will be hosting Florida for the first real test of the season. That showdown will happen on November 15 in Tallahassee, and Florida State is a perfect 8-0 at home against the Gators.
