It has been another busy few days for Florida State athletics, between the soccer team pulling off a big win and the football team preparing to return home for a clash against Clemson. Soccer season is heating up in Tallahassee, with just a handful of regular-season games remaining before any small mistake could end the year.

While the soccer team continues to move along, the volleyball team has been doing the same after powering through a difficult stretch. The Seminoles are currently 11-9 with an 8-4 record at home this season, as two more challenging matches await the team this weekend.

Florida State soccer takes down No. 5 Duke, 2-1, in Tallahassee

After suffering a difficult loss to No. 17 Notre Dame at the Seminole Soccer Complex on October 24, Florida State rallied against a very strong No. 5 Duke team for the 2-1 win. Junior forward Shaneil Buckley opened the scoring for the Seminoles in the 10th minute before senior defender Tanner Strickland drove home the game-winning goal.

The win comes at a key time for Florida State, with just two games against Miami and Virginia Tech remaining in the regular season. The Seminoles did not play Virginia Tech last season, but the team did play against Miami and delivered a thrilling 3-0 win.

Freshmen Devin Carter, Jordan Crutchfield set to return during football's home game against Clemson

The Florida State football team will finally return home after a bye week and two games against Louisville and Miami on the road. The Seminoles will be hosting the Clemson Tigers, who are in a similar position both on the field and with their coaching staff. A win over Clemson would honestly be fantastic at the moment, especially given the injury concerns the Seminoles have been dealing with.

Star running back Ousmane Kromah suffered an injury that required the medical cart to come out during the Week 7 game against Miami. Florida State kicked off the bye week by confirming that Kromah would indeed miss the rest of the season, putting more pressure on an already thin running back room. Now, starting defensive back Quindarrius Jones will miss his second game of the season against Clemson after playing 14 snaps against Miami.

Getting a full week off and seeing injuries continue to linger is not a good sign, but on the bright side, freshmen Devin Carter and Jordan Crutchfield will be good to go against Clemson. Carter will be making his collegiate debut at wide receiver after missing the previous seven games with an injury, which was tough to watch after the receiver had an excellent camp. Crutchfield has been in a similar position this season but, the safety has already seen the field.

Volleyball prepares to face Virginia Tech and Virginia for a stacked weekend

The Seminoles' volleyball team will return to action tonight against Virginia Tech in Blacksburg before travelling to Charlottesville on November 1 to face Virginia. The Hokies are 6-13 this season with a record of 3-7 against conference opponents. It has not been the best season for the team, and Florida State should be able to pick up another sweep before facing a very similar opponent in two days.

The Cavaliers are also 6-13 this season, with a record of 3-6 at home that includes losses to Duke and North Carolina. Virginia has lost the last three ACC games in a row, and the chances of the team turning things around against Florida State do not seem likely. The Seminoles could really use two wins this weekend to put themselves back towards the top of the conference.

Freshman Marcis Ponder named to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Center of the Year watch list

After two strong exhibitions, freshman center Marcis Ponder received national recognition this week after being added to the preseason watch list for the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award. Each season, the award is given to the top center in men's college basketball, and ahead of the season, 20 players are named to the watch list.

Ponder, who stands tall at 7-feet and 285 pounds, exploded for a double-double in his first collegiate exhibition against Auburn before posting another strong performance against LSU. The center joined Florida State as a four-star recruit and one of the top players at his position in the class. Ponder has already established himself as a starter for the Seminoles, and now he is expected to produce against some tough competition in the ACC as a freshman.
