The Florida State Seminoles haven't had the best offseason in terms of landing recruits for the 2027 class. Last week, four-star target DaJohn Yarborough turned down the Seminoles and committed to Cal instead.

With him likely elsewhere, Florida State will have to change its focus, and three-star Oscar Webersink could be an option. Since he hasn't made a decision yet, he could be one of their main targets, but that doesn't mean they should try to flip another recruit.

Three-star offensive tackle Jonathan Toney has committed to Memphis, but the Seminoles were one of four schools he had interest in.

Although the Tigers may have won the battle, that doesn't mean things won't be able to change.

Jonathan Toney should be Florida State's OL flip target

Getting a recruit to flip his decision isn't necessarily far-fetched, and since he was already considering Florida State, they should craft a plan to see if they can sway him back in this direction.

The early signing period isn't until December, which means there are five months left before things can be official. The Seminoles had Toney visit on March 31 before coming back to attend a football camp on May 31, where he impressed the staff. That led to a scholarship offer and indicates they saw things in Toney that they really liked.

He stands at 6-foot-6 and weighs 268 pounds. Florida State has been struggling to get recruits to commit for 2027, especially on the offensive line. Head coach Mike Norvell's uncertain future looms over the program and only makes it harder to clear those hurdles.

But that doesn't mean they shouldn't make a full court press to get certain guys in the building. Not having a solid offensive line will only backfire on the Seminoles. If they aren't a cohesive and stout unit up front, both the run and pass will be impacted. And for a player like Toney, whose best days are ahead of him, that would be a fantastic addition.

It's no secret that they are behind in the chase, but that doesn't mean it's over. Toney had them in consideration for a reason, so that means anything can transpire over the next few months.

These recruiting battles are always tough, yet this specific position seems to be a problem area for Norvell. With his job seemingly hanging in the balance, finding a way to get Toney to flip could earn him some brownie points.

Not only would it show that he can still find ways to get players to come down to Florida, but it would also give him the best offensive linemen recruit of the class. That won't come easy, but one way or another, Florida State will need to address the position.

Toney would give them some much-needed help for the future while helping offset the loss of Yarborough. Keeping your eye on the future is how programs change things, and finding a way to get Toney to become a Seminole would be a big step toward achieving that.
