Florida State hasn't had much success developing talent in the trenches lately. Since they haven't been able to tally up homegrown talent there, it has forced them into the transfer portal, which only makes the uphill climb more difficult.

The Seminoles had four-star target DaJohn Yarborough on their radar but missed out on him, as he committed to Cal over Florida State, Washington, and Mississippi State. Florida State needs to put its focus elsewhere on the offensive line, putting Oscar Webersink at the forefront.

Florida State must focus on Oscar Webersink after missing out on DaJohn Yarborough

Webersink is a three-star offensive tackle from Oakdale, CT. He stands at 6-foot-8 and weighs 290 pounds. Per 247Sports, Webersink is the 84th-ranked offensive tackle in the nation.

He's receiving interest from Florida State, Penn State, Maryland, Wake Forest, and West Virginia. The Nittany Lions are currently in the lead, but a lot of things can change in the next several weeks to steer him in the direction of Florida State.

For a program that needs to bolster the trenches for the future, finding a way to get Webersink in the building would be massive. He's a player who moves very well for his size, with the frame to still pack on weight that would help his strength on the field.

And his athleticism stands out. According to Dustin Lewis of FSU Seminoles on SI, Webersink reportedly ran a 4.9 40-yard dash with an 8-foot-10-inch broad jump. Those numbers, in combination with his height/weight, make it easy to see why he's an interesting prospect.

Webersink was born in Sweden but moved to the United States and will spend his senior season at St. Thomas More School in Connecticut. He's participated in several camps, putting him on the radar of multiple schools.

When he received his offer from Florida State, Webersink mentioned his conversation with offensive line coach Herb Hand. That may not be a major development, but it shows that it was a positive interaction that left an impression on Webersink.

It's now up to the coaching staff, led by Mike Norvell and the front office, to craft a plan that the three-star tackle is confident in. That's the difference maker between getting a player to commit or not.

These young men need to feel that the school they are going to attend will give them the best chance to improve as players while giving them the opportunity to get on the football field. As things currently stand, Penn State is in the lead, but things can quickly change.

With how things look presently, the Seminoles have 13 hard commits for the 2027 class. They need to press the gas in certain areas to improve long-term, and getting Webersink to come down to Tallahassee would help them get one step closer in a class that needs more commits.
