Florida State football did not have the 2024 season that they thought they would as they had a 2-10 record. It still pains me to write that in coming to grips with what this Seminoles team did that badly.
As I alluded to in a recent article, I believe that Florida State is going all-in with fixing its offense which averaged 15 points per game last year. The Seminoles brought in offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn to its program. Then they added former Boston College quarterback transfer Thomas Castellanos.
This is a win-now move for the program as they want to get their offense to be dynamic again and make Florida State a destination where it is "Built for Playmakers." Castellanos only has one year of eligibility remaining.
Unfortunately, former Class of 2024 four-star quarterback prospect Luke Kromenhoek transferred out of the program this offseason and signed with Mississippi State. Honestly, I was a bit shocked since Kromenhoek seems to be part of the plan for getting significant playing time this past season.
Seminole fans were surprised that redshirt freshman Brock Glenn decided to stick around after Kromenhoek took the starting snaps to end the year. Glenn, Trever Jackson, and four-star signee Kevin Sperry are other options.
One notable piece that I believe Florida State wants to keep in the fold is Class of 2026 five-star Brady Smigiel from Newbury Park High School in Newbury Park, California. As the Seminoles struggle, fans expect highly-touted prospects to take visits elsewhere.
Smigiel took a recent visit to Washington and South Carolina offered him recently and is trying to get involved. The talented signal-caller had 3,521 passing yards, 49 touchdowns, and only three interceptions during the 2024 season.
It is a good sign that head football coach Mike Norvell and offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn are trying to do their best to keep tabs on their stud quarterback prospect. It would be great to get Smigiel to sign with the Seminoles.
