Florida State basketball welcomed Luke Loucks as its new head coach last year after longtime coach Leonard Hamilton retired. Loucks was a former point guard who played for the university, so he was well-received by the fan base and Seminole Boosters.

Unfortunately, the Seminoles did not start the 2025 season off on the right foot, as the program had a 7-11 overall record (0-5 in conference). The blowout loss to North Carolina State was a wake-up call for Florida State because it happened inside the Tucker Center by a score of 113-69.

Coach Loucks and his staff worked tirelessly in an effort to get things back on the right track. The Seminoles were a laughingstock, and teams were hoping that Florida State would be on their schedule. Some fans even thought that Loucks could be in over his head with the job.

However, teams are allowed to improve and get better. That is exactly what Florida State did with winning as they became victorious in 11 of their last 15 games to close the year. It cannot be easy in the ACC when the general public raves about teams such as Duke, North Carolina, and Virginia.

Luke Loucks has a plan for Florida State basketball this season

With that said, Loucks is trying to change the narrative in Tallahassee, where he secured a top-15 recruiting class as well as a transfer portal haul that fans should be happy about. Luke Loucks has already mentioned that after the March Madness was announced this past year, Florida State will be invited to the crowd of teams soon enough.

Florida State might be closer than originally thought, as the D-1 men's and women's basketball committees have voted to expand the NCAA Tournament to 76 teams.

This is huge news for Florida State basketball, as they hope to get back to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since the 2020-2021 season. Even though the Seminoles don't have a rich history in basketball, it would be great to finally get back in the tournament.

This has to get the fan base bought into the Seminoles' basketball program again. That Florida State March Madness merchandise would sell like hot cakes.
