Florida State basketball coach Luke Loucks said he was ready to attack the portal when it opened a couple of weeks ago. The Noles got off to a slow start in that first week but opened the floodgates in the second week, acquiring several high-caliber targets that will help Florida State compete with most teams on its schedule in Loucks’ second season in Tallahassee.

These transfer portal additions come on the heels of signing a top-10 high school recruiting class, and the Noles could add one more potential target from the transfer portal. They have a former Wake Forest player who was highly productive before his one year in Winston-Salem, visiting on Thursday.

Cooper Schwieger is another big man who can stretch the floor and shoot it from three-point land at a high clip. His production dropped significantly at Wake Forest, but I don’t think they maximized his strengths.

However, even before the news broke that FSU was in the mix to add him, analysts are already jumping on the Florida State bandwagon for the upcoming season, based on how well they played in the second half of last season and the quality of talent Luke Loucks is acquiring.

Luke Loucks doesn’t seem to be backing down from the increased expectations, as he commented on a social media post from one of the analysts that should give Florida State fans tons of confidence in the future of the basketball program:

Luke Loucks embracing the increasing expectations is a good sign, and the work the staff is putting in shows they want to win now.

We’ve seen Florida State ascend to one of the top programs in the ACC and nationally within the past decade under FSU's legendary coach, Leonard Hamilton. The Noles don’t have as many resources as many of the bluebloods in the sport, but there’s something to be said for creativity, relentless pursuit, NBA connections, and some early success in year one.

If Luke Loucks can meet or exceed the growing expectations in year two, Florida State could become a place where talented players flock to play.
