Florida State football enters this week and next week with its two biggest recruiting weekends on deck, checking in at No. 55, just one spot behind Alabama. One may hear that and think, Florida State’s in a spot where they can easily make up some serious ground. However, those two programs are operating on two different levels right now.

Florida State has only seven commitments, and the quality of the remaining targets hovers around the three-star and low four-star range. Only two of the seven commits are considered composite four-star players right now.

Alabama has one less commit and an average player ranking nearly two and a half points higher. Their remaining targets include several top-100 players and a couple of five-stars.

Florida State better apply a full-court press to some of its top targets if they want to get a respectable class.

If Florida State plans to make a serious push for its 2027 recruiting class, it has to take place over the next two weeks. Three-star quarterback commit Logan Flaherty is taking his official visit this weekend and is working to get a couple of the four-star players to join him in the class.

FSU has some solid players scheduled for official visits next week. One thing that’s been happening is players with official visits scheduled have been canceled because players either committed elsewhere or the two camps spoke and knew they were not in the same ballpark from a money perspective.

FSU has some good players set to visit on June 19th, but who’s to say some of those players make it for the official visit if they are visiting other places this week and next? The majority of teams in the top 20 rankings already have 15 or more commits. So, from a sheer numbers point, Florida State has a tremendous amount of ground to make up, much less from the quality of player.

I think Florida State will land some quality guys in this class this summer, but how much they affect the overall rankings is yet to be determined. It’s nowhere near the standard, but can Florida State finish with a top 20 class like they normally do, based on where they are right now and the remaining targets? If so, they'd better make a lot of hay over the next two weeks.
