Florida State football left a lot to be desired during the 2024 season where they had a 2-10 record. The offense was supposed to be something that would be solid under the leadership of head football coach Mike Norvell.
Norvell was regarded as one of the better playcallers in college football (or so I thought...). However, his unit failed him as they were one of the worst in the country, with inconsistencies on display.
The Seminoles' offense thought that they had a plan in place when they picked up quarterback transfer DJ Uiagalelei since the former Clemson and Oregon State signal-caller was known for his strong arm.
However, with a veteran offensive line that struggled and pass catchers that could not create much separation, it became apparent that the Seminoles' unit was destined to fail. With that being, 2025 looks to be a new chapter.
Florida State has taken their chances on another transfer this offseason as Boston College quarterback Thomas Castellanos made it official in Tallahassee. The dual-threat option seems to fit what offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn wants in his scheme.
Then the Seminoles added USC sophomore wide receiver Duce Robinson, who is a big-bodied pass catcher who gives Florida State a different skill set than they had the previous year. Robinson is a legacy recruit whose father played for the Seminoles in the early 2000s.
Florida State looks to be active with other wide receiver transfers, such as Tru Edwards (Louisiana Tech), Traylon Ray (West Virginia), and Squirrel White (Tennessee).
The Seminoles have now offered another option in App State senior wide receiver transfer Kaedin Robinson. The veteran recorded 53 receptions for 840 yards and two touchdowns in 2024 and then accumulated 67 catches for 905 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2023.
Robinson has familiarity with Malzahn as he signed with UCF in 2021. I expect Florida State to move quickly with the wide receiver transfer as the first day of class at the university begins on Monday, January 6th. This does not mean that they have to get him to commit by that time, but the coaching staff does not have all the time in the world.
