Florida State misses on coveted 4-star defensive end to Dabo Swinney and Clemson

This is a disappointing development for Florida State's recruiting class.

Florida State football's 2027 recruiting class has not been where the fan base wants it. The Seminoles have combined to have a 7-17 record over the past two seasons, so expecting a top-five recruiting class might be a little bit far-fetched.

With that said, Florida State fans are angry with head coach Mike Norvell still being in Tallahassee. After the Stanford road loss, individuals thought that the administration would fire him after mentioning that they would complete a comprehensive assessment.

The administration instead decided to keep him around for the 2026 season. While it is great and all that he is staying around a coach because I truly do think he cares about the program and has shown the potential to be productive after the successful 2022 and 2023 season, there comes a point where you wonder what happens in 2027. This could scare recruits away from the program.

Florida State misses out on four-star defensive end Santana Harvey to Clemson

Florida State had another whiff on the recruiting trail, as Class of 2027 four-star defensive end Santana Harvey from Lakeland, Florida, announced that he would be committing to Clemson.

Head coach Dabo Swinney has lost a bit of his spark that made him such a successful coach, and the current landscape of NIL could be causing him issues to remain consistent. However, Coach Swinney still grabs and develops high school talent.

To be honest, it is disappointing that Harvey chose to commit to the Tigers because the pass rusher had already visited Tallahassee twice this spring. It is even worse when On3's Hayes Fawcett drops the commitment graphic, and it mentions that Harvey chose Clemson over schools like Notre Dame, Georgia Tech, and Colorado. There was no discussion of Florida State in there.

To make matters even worse, Clemson offered him back on February 3rd of this year. The Seminoles were his second-ever offer on January 23, 2025.

This isn't a shot at the recruiting efforts of head coach Mike Norvell or even defensive ends coach Nick Williams, but this is the reality of Florida State football recruiting right now, where it feels like the Seminoles won't be able to land top-tier talent in the state unless they turn it around on the field in 2026 or head coach Mike Norvell is relieved of his duties.
