Florida State baseball (33-14, 15-9 ACC) swept the Pittsburgh Panthers over the weekend, moving into the No. 7 spot in the national RPI. They still have two ACC series remaining, which could change things, but the most important game on the schedule is the next one on Tuesday night against the always tough Jacksonville Dolphins (26-20, 13-11 ASUN.

Florida State has won the two previous matchups, 13-3 in eight innings on the road and 7-6 in front of the home crowd. The Noles will go for the series sweep on Tuesday night inside Dick Howser at 6 p.m. ET.

A win won’t help Florida State much since Jacksonville’s RPI is No. 128 nationally. However, a loss would undo the goodwill built from the series sweep over Pittsburgh.

Florida State is in a good spot, but must play well into the ACC Tournament to clinch a top-eight national seed.

Jacksonville is a scrappy bunch that managed to beat the Florida Gators a couple of weeks ago(something FSU failed to do in three tries), but it lost its weekend series against North Florida.

Florida State needs to win this game and travel to Clemson, a team with an RPI of 41 nationally. The Noles will finish up the regular season hosting the rival Miami Hurricanes. The Hurricanes lost one of its weekend starting pitchers and one of its best hitters due to injuries recently. They have an RPI of 33.

Florida State won’t have an opportunity to improve its No. 7 RPI, but any losses to the remaining teams on the schedule can certainly cause it to drop. They have played the fifth-toughest schedule nationally and one of the best run differentials against top competition.

They have been fairly consistent outside the loss to Duke after Myles Bailey went down with an injury and the third game against Georgia Tech. They have several losses by one run. A deep run in the ACC Tournament could help their case with a national seed, but first, they must finish off Jacksonville.
