Florida State's 2027 recruiting class hasn't been where the fan base wants. It is understandable, since the program has been struggling as of late, going a combined 7-17 over the past two seasons. Plus, head coach Mike Norvell has been on many hot-seat lists.

Recruits don't want to come to a school where the head coach is under fire, and they don't know if he will be employed in 2027 when they arrive on campus. Plus, if the Seminoles fire Norvell and bring in another coach, there is no guarantee that the new staff would be interested in the recruits, so it could be a headache for the prospect to find a new home.

This isn't me saying that Norvell will be fired, but it is the reality of what some of these prospects are thinking. Nonetheless, Florida State is trying to get back on track with official visits this summer. The Seminoles hosted five prospects this weekend, with four-star defensive end commit Anthony Cavallaro leading the charge.

Three-star defensive lineman Eric Vaulx Jr. commits to Florida State over Missouri and Tennessee

This official visit weekend had a couple of prospects that could seem attainable if the Seminoles wanted them. It turns out that the Seminoles got a tremendous pick-up, as three-star defensive lineman Eric Vaulx Jr. from Lake Cormorant, Mississippi, committed to Florida State.

The Seminoles landed Vaulx Jr. over schools such as Missouri and Tennessee, which he was planning to officially visit this summer. Florida State sees him as a defensive tackle. It reminds me of Earnest Rankins in last year's recruiting cycle, where they will grow out his frame to play him on the interior, as Vaulx Jr. is listed at 6'3" and 265 pounds.

He might be listed as a three-star prospect, but fans should be glad that Florida State landed him. Vaulx Jr. was excellent during his junior season, where he recorded 75 tackles (18 for loss), six sacks, one forced fumble, three fumble recoveries, and three blocked kicks.

There will be plenty of defensive trenches that Florida State needs to grab, but getting Vaulx Jr. in the recruiting class is a huge start.
