Florida State football has been red hot in the transfer portal, where they have collected fifteen transfers to build on its roster for 2025. The Seminoles had a disastrous 2024 campaign where it finished with a 2-10 record.
Many fans believe that the disappointments come from misevaluating the transfer portal pickups. The transfers last offseason seem to be more consisting of players who they missed out on in the recruiting trail and did not have much production at their first stop.
I do feel like securing transfers to provide veteran depth with experience on the roster, but I still think recruiting high school prospects will be a core foundation of what the program will be built on. I am not suggesting that head football coach Mike Norvell take a page out of Dabo Swinney's book and ignore the transfer portal altogether. However, there needs to be a happy mix.
Norvell had an eventful offseason where he knew that major changes were needed. He made the difficult decision to fire and hire new coaches on his staff. Then those coaches went heavy on the emphasis of the recruiting trail with the Early Signing Period quickly approaching in December.
Florida State had been historically rough during the period when some of its top talent signed elsewhere. The Seminoles finished with a strong 2025 recruiting class where it is sitting with the 21st ranked class, according to 247Sports Composite.
It might not seem like much but that is solid considering how Florida State handled the 2024 season. With that being said, the Seminoles don't seem to be done. Our very own Kelvin Hunt wrote about four-star offensive tackle target Chastan Brown showing interest in the program. Brown still has room to grow at 6'7" and 270 pounds, but he could be a piece that develops into something in the future.
That isn't the only offensive lineman that Florida State is involved with as five-star offensive tackle Ty Haywood from Ryan High School in Denton, Texas is supposed to be getting an in-home visit with the Seminoles today. Haywood was originally going to sign with the Alabama Crimson Tide, but that is no longer happening.
The talented offensive tackle is expected to take an official visit to Michigan on January 17-18. Keep in mind that Haywood already officially visited Florida State on the weekend of June 21st.
It would be nice to get the offensive lineman in the fold.
