Florida State completed spring practice a couple of weeks ago, but that hasn’t stopped the coaching staff from looking to add talent to the roster who could play a role in the 2025 season. The transfer portal closed months ago, but FSU coaches have continued to scour players listed and think they may have found one who could help them in 2025.

Texas State defensive lineman Davvarick Woods is visiting Florida State after getting approved for a waiver to play another year in 2026, a few days ago.

He's drawing interest from other programs, and FSU got him on campus shortly after he received his waiver. Will he want to play with his former teammate?

Florida State took his Texas State teammate, Jordan Sanders, from the portal right before it closed in January, and Woods entered the portal on January 16th. Woods visited Colorado and NC State in January even when he didn't know if he'd get another year to play. He plans to visit the rival Florida Gators on Monday.

Normally, I'd roll my eyes at this, but there is some legitimate interest from some Power Four teams for the young man even though he missed spring ball. He has good PFF numbers at Texas State in 2025. He's older and got it out of the mud through the JUCO ranks before landing at Texas State.

The coaching staff must believe he can add some depth to its defensive front, and having his former teammate on the roster should help FSU's cause. Woods was excellent against the run, and that is something Florida State's defense wants to be great at in 2026.

We'll see if they can close the deal before he leaves Tallahassee. I'm not sure how bad they want him, but they got him on campus just a few days after he got the waiver to play, so that provides some context. Wherever he winds up, he'll have a few months to get into shape and try to make an impact.
