Florida State only has six commitments in its 2027 recruiting class and ranks outside the top-30, according to 247Sports Composite. This is not the standard that the program should hold if they wish to continue to compete for championships.
Assistant coach Tim Harris Jr. has been a rock star on the recruiting trail for the Seminoles, bringing in wide receivers. Fans even saw Harris Jr. get promoted to offensive coordinator this offseason after Gus Malzahn unexpectedly retired.
Harris Jr. brought in plenty of pass catchers during the 2026 recruiting class, such as Devin Carter, Jasen Lopez, Brandon Bennett, EJ White, Darryon Williams, and Jonah Winston. Plus, they were able to bring back wide receivers Duce Robinson, Micahi Danzy, and Jayvan Boggs this offseason.
Life is good with the wide receivers. They only need to have Ashton Daniels play adequately. The Seminoles are banking on Daniels to have a similar breakout that he did against the likes of Vanderbilt and Alabama last year during his time with Auburn.
Four-star wide receiver Jabari Watkins could be someone that Florida State could grab
Florida State does not have a wide receiver prospect committed in their class, but four-star Jabari Watkins from Thomas Central High School in Thomasville, Georgia, should be at the top of the list. The local prospect has been on the Seminoles' campus several times.
There was a portion of the fan base that was frustrated that Florida State didn't get former three-star Cam Brooks in the last recruiting class, with him being from the same school. The Seminoles ended up signing him away from California at the last second.
Watkins has official visits scheduled with Louisville (May 29th), Arkansas (June 5th), Florida State (June 12th), and Georgia Tech (June 19th). The issue that the pass catcher named the Seminoles the top school in his recruitment, and then he named Louisville the top school.
The Cardinals have a chance to leave a first impression, but Watkins isn't expected to announce his commitment until July 1st. While wide receiver isn't a top prospect, the Seminoles never want to see talented local prospects go elsewhere.
