Florida State's recruiting class for the 2027 cycle only has five prospects committed thus far, but the coaching staff has been able to schedule official visits over the summer to interested highly-touted recruits.
The Seminoles still don't have a signal-caller in their recruiting class, as they are involved with prospects such as four-star Israel Abrams and Champ Monds IV. However, another name has emerged with three-star Logan Flaherty (UCF commit) from Port Charlotte, Florida.
The biggest factor in all of this is how Florida State performs on the gridiron this year. The Seminoles started red-hot after beating Alabama in the season opener, but fizzled down the stretch, with not being bowl eligible.
High school recruits need to see sustainable success. They don't have to pledge to a program that could be great one season and then turn around and not make a bowl. That is exactly how Coach Norvell's tenure has been at Florida State, and it is time for the narrative to change.
Quarterback Logan Flaherty could be Florida State's quarterback in this recruiting class
The quarterback position is the most important decision on the football field. The Seminoles saw success when they had former signal-caller Jordan Travis in the Garnet and Gold.
Coach Norvell has won at a high level when Travis was under center, but when it wasn't the former Louisville transfer, there were problems. Florida State has resorted to acquiring yet another transfer portal quarterback in Auburn's Ashton Daniels to compete with the likes of Kevin Sperry, Malachi Marshall, and Dean DeNobile.
The coaching staff needs to continue recruiting quarterbacks at the high school level in hopes of having a sustainable pathway to success. Three-star Logan Flaherty could be exactly what they need. Fans shouldn't let the star ranking fool them, as he recorded 2,636 passing yards with 27 touchdowns and seven interception with also had 595 yards and 11 touchdowns on the ground during his junior season (according to MaxPreps).
Flaherty unofficially visited Florida State on Friday, and they have started picking up communication in his recruitment. The signal-caller visited Georgia Tech on Saturday, and then has trips to Memphis, South Florida, Florida, Rutgers, and UCF. He has scheduled an official visit with the Seminoles, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Florida State eventually get one set in place.
