Florida State softball (43-7, 18-3 ACC) took care of business on the road against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets over the weekend, sweeping the three-game series and moving back into sole possession of first place in the ACC. The last two wins were hard-fought, and we learned about the fight in this team.
They have rattled off seven consecutive wins since getting swept against Stanford, including a huge win over the rival Florida Gators (45-7, 16-5 SEC) last week. They’ll have the opportunity to go for the sweep on Tuesday night when they travel to Gainesville.
FSU won the first matchup 3-1, behind two home runs from Isa Torres and an RBI single by Shelby McKenzie.

FSU improved its RPI ranking with the win over Florida last week, as it was only the second win over a ranked opponent all season. All seven losses for Florida State have come against quad 1 opponents, which means FSU has beaten who they were supposed to beat.
Florida State needs this win to prove the first one wasn't a fluke to national media, and to get a major boost of confidence towards the end of the season.
That’s great and all, but they have to show they can consistently beat good teams to be a major threat in the postseason. They control their destiny in the ACC and have the opportunity to host a regional. If they win out and win the ACC Tournament, they’re likely a top-eight seed, which means they would host a Super Regional if they got that far.
This team seems to be coming together at the right time. The pitching has improved since the losses to Stanford, and Isa Torres continues to not be human at the plate. Some freshmen bats have emerged lately, too. Maybe those losses were exactly what the Noles needed after winning 25 consecutive games.
Tuesday’s game will air on the SEC Network at 7 p.m.
