Florida State softball had to come from behind a few times on Sunday and needed extra innings, but completed the three-game sweep of the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in an 8-5 win.
FSU jumped to a 2-0 early lead on solo home runs from Haley Griggs and Isa Torres, but Georgia Tech responded with four runs in the bottom of the third. Freshman Anna Hinde hit a solo home run to trim the lead to 4-3 in the top of the fourth. Hinde tied the game with an RBI single in the top of the fifth before Georgia Tech took a 5-4 lead in the bottom of the sixth.

Jaysoni Beachum worked a two-out walk, and Anna Hinde was down to her last strike when she stroked a double off of the right centerfield wall to score Beachum and send the game into extra innings. Hinde went 3-5 with three RBI. Ashtyn Danley also went 3-5 with an RBI, Shelby McKenzie was the only other batter with two hits.

The two teams failed to score until Ashtyn Danley scorched a solo shot for a 6-5 lead and eventual winning run, but Makenna Sturgis roped a ball to shortstop to score two more insurance runs to make it 8-5.
Ashtyn Danley has a great case to be the team MVP with her two-way play.

NOLES GRAB THE LEAD

Georgia Tech went down in order in the bottom of the ninth. It was a huge win for Florida State since the Duke Blue Devils lost a game this weekend. It means the Noles control their destiny and will win the ACC regular season and be the No. 1 seed if they sweep Boston College next weekend.
The Noles have another important game in the midweek when they travel to face the rival Florida Gators again. If FSU can beat the Gators for a second time, it would be a nice boost to its resume late in the season.
