Florida State football trending for double legacy recruit for second time

Will the second time be a charm?

Remember when a segment of fans were critical of the Florida State coaching staff for seemingly not going hard after legacy three-star wide receiver Julian Cromartie? Ironically, a large segment of Florida State fans doesn’t seem to care that Florida State is pushing heavily for double legacy three-star quarterback Logan Flaherty.

I’m not sure fans realize that both of Flaherty’s parents graduated from Florida State, and he grew up a Florida State fan. The former UCF commit started trending heavily to the Noles once he announced his de-commitment.

However, it hasn’t been as easy as most thought, with some other schools pushing for Flaherty’s commitment. There was some chatter about Flaherty not coming to Florida State, but that chatter seems to have changed over the last day or so. Noles247 has a crystal ball prediction for the Noles, but they also said they didn’t think he was coming to Florida State a few days ago. He has an official visit set for Rutgers on May 29th, but it’ll be interesting to see what happens between now and then, or if he’ll actually take that trip.

Florida State needs wants to take a 2027 quarterback and they'd either have to take Flaherty, flip someone committed elsewhere, or take some unknown player.

Here’s what I think. Flaherty is a Florida kid, double legacy, and Florida State wants to take a quarterback in the 2027 recruiting class. Flaherty probably didn’t like that he was so far down the list of options, but he knows Florida State wouldn’t take another high school quarterback if he joined the recruiting class. He’s likely not starting as a freshman, no matter where he signs.

Flaherty is the No. 726 player and No. 40 quarterback in the 2027 recruiting class. Flaherty has some talent and can move enough with his legs to avoid being a statue in the pocket. His completion percentage isn’t great for a high school player. There’s a good reason he’s ranked where he is.

If Flaherty commits to Florida State, it’s probably not going to move the needle much for the fan base. However, Florida State needs some positive momentum going into the official visit season.   We’ll see what happens over the coming days, but I would be surprised if FSU lets Flaherty go elsewhere based on the recruiting board and who’s considered realistic to flip from some other school.
