Florida State lost defensive tackle Darrell Jackson Jr. to the 2026 NFL Draft, but retained two important pieces of its defensive front in the Desir Twins. They also retained talented freshman Kevin Wynn and brought in Texas State transfer Jordan Sanders, who enrolled in the spring semester.
FSU has some younger defensive linemen who’ll need more time to develop, which is likely why they have entertained two more defensive tackle targets over the past week. FSU had the teammate of Jordan Sanders (DeVarrick Woods) on campus for a visit a few days ago. Woods entered the transfer portal in January but was finally granted another year of eligibility by the NCAA, which jump-started his recruitment again.
FSU had JUCO defensive tackle Malachi Brown on campus on Thursday, and he has FSU among his final three schools. It looks like he’ll choose between FSU, Colorado, and Kansas, according to multiple reports. He visited Kansas on April 19 and Colorado on April 30.
I want to give Florida State the benefit of the doubt, but it's hard to with how they been moving in recruiting lately.
Florida State got the last visit, but is trying to bring in another defensive tackle, an act of desperation or due diligence? Neither player will have practiced in the spring, which probably hampers how much they can contribute this fall. Woods is the more proven commodity, though he took the JUCO route to land at Texas State. Brown will have more eligibility remaining, which is enticing.
Does FSU feel they don’t have enough depth at the position? What’s the reasoning for bringing in a player at this position now? It could be that the spring revealed some gaps or weaknesses they were not prepared for before spring camp started. Or, maybe they are scouring the ends of the earth and think these two guys can help them without costing a ton of money?
I doubt they take both, but it’ll be interesting to see which one they take. Woods had interest from a higher-tier Power Four list. We should know something in the next week or two.
