Florida State football needs to bring back this defensive mind back to Tallahassee

This would be quite the reunion for this coach and Florida State.

Florida State football fans saw the Seminoles get embarrassed on Saturday by the arch-rival Florida Gators team that finished the year with a 4-8 record. It doesn't get much worse than that.

We saw Florida running back Jadan Baugh run for 266 rushing yards, which was second most in a game in their school history (according to ESPN Stats and Information). It felt like every time Baugh touched the football, it was going to be a 5-yard carry.

Fans became frustrated because the 3-3-5 defensive scheme was something that they didn't think worked properly at a place like Florida State. The Seminoles showed physicality and aggression against Alabama in the opener, but it disappeared after Coach White's name became a serious candidate for the vacant UCLA head football coaching job.

That is the nature of the beast when it comes to college football. Coaches take new jobs all the time, as we saw with Lane Kiffin making from Ole Miss to LSU. It is a Wild West in the sport when you include the coaching carousel and the transfer portal for players.

Nonetheless, head football coach Mike Norvell alluded in a recent media session that major changes were coming in Tallahassee. This is to be expected after the Seminoles have suffered its fourth losing season in six years under his guidance.

Coach White could be one of the first dominoes to fall, but the Seminoles could already have a candidate in mind, with Kentucky expecting to fire its head football coach Mark Stoops (according to a report from ESPN's Pete Thamel).

Stoops was a former defensive coordinator/defensive backs coach at Florida State from 2010-2012 under previous head football coach Jimbo Fisher. He had the difficult task of replacing legendary defensive coordinator Mickey Andrews, where the Seminoles finished with a 31-10 overall record during Stoops's tenure.

If fans were knocking down the door for a potential Jimbo Fisher reunion in Tallahassee as the head football coach, then it wouldn't be too much to believe that the Seminole faithful would welcome Stoops back with open arms.
